There are a number of places where you can get FREE email accounts which you can access from a browser anywhere in the world.
If you chose to continue working with your email software (Outlook, Mircrosoft Mail, Thunderbird), gmail is one of the few accounts that you can set up to communicate via the POP mail protocol.
